Call for Proposals

The Call for Proposals will remain open until Wednesday, March 30, 2022 Proposal submissions will be completed using our online Call for Proposals Form.
We will host Research Presentations, Regular Sessions, Interactive/Hands-on Workshops, and a Three-Minute Thesis format (more details on session types below). Special this year will be an Indigenous STEM Strand. Information on session types can be found below.

Speaker Proposal Acceptance Decision: Friday, May 15, 2022
SSMA Annual Convention Proceedings:  The deadline for Proceedings submissions is August 12, 2022.  Proceedings format requirements can be found HERE.

 

Proposal Details:

After blind review by the Program Committee, you will be notified whether your proposal is accepted for the Convention. As you submit your proposal online, the following information will be required:

  • Speaker Information (name, affiliation, email, etc.)
  • Co-Presenter Information (name, affiliation, email)
  • Presentation Description
    • Session Title (limited to 100 characters including spaces)
    • Program Description (limited to 400 characters with spaces; this is the information that will be included in the program)
    • Proposal Description (limited to 2500 characters including spaces)

Note: We recommend writing your proposal details in a Word document and then copying the details into the form when ready for submission.

 

Session Descriptions:

Indigenous STEM: This strand will focus on programs that work within the Indigenous communities in areas related to math/science/STEM including Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous engineering. Please use any of the types of sessions listed below, but indicate on the proposal form that it is intended for the Indigenous STEM Strand.
  • Research Session (25 or 50 minutes):  This session is designed for the presentation of a research project or study.  Audience members will have time at the end of a presentation to ask questions of the presenter.
  • Regular Session (25 or 50 minutes): This session is designed to present information on projects, course innovations, program innovations, or other science and mathematics initiatives. Audience members will have time at the end of a presentation to ask questions of the presenter.
  • Workshop Session (75 minutes):  This session is designed to engage participants in an interactive environment to explore mathematics, science, STEM research, projects, or initiatives.
  • Three Minute Thesis:  Present your research and its significance in three minutes. This session is great for graduate students and other researchers who want to engage the audience in a compelling oration of their research in 180 seconds.

Registration

Registration for the 2022 Convention is currently open. Early registration runs until October 7th, 2022. Late registration begins on October 8th.

The SSMA Convention will use the Whova platform for the program this year. Registrants may purchase a printed program for $10 when registering for the convention. Please note that you must register by October 7th to request and receive a printed program. Also, we will use the Whova app to announce all updates to the convention program.

Please Note: All presenters are required to register for the convention by October 1st.  If not registered by that date, names may be dropped from the program.

Technology Support

  • LCD Projectors with HDMI connections will be provided for every session for use with your laptop computer. If your computer does not have an HDMI outlet, then you are responsible for providing an appropriate adapter.
  • Computers will NOT be provided, so please bring your own if you intend to use one
  • Other special equipment will be the responsibility of the speaker
  • Overhead projectors will NOT be provided
